History of Hyde Hall
Hyde Hall is named after Hallie Walker Hyde, who was the first woman to serve as leader of the State student body. She was elected into the position 11 years before women were granted the right to vote in the United States.
Hyde was very involved at State. Along with her student body position, Hyde was also involved with the Miltonian Literary Society and served on the Jack Rabbit yearbook staff. She graduated with a general science degree in 1908.
She stayed in higher education and obtained a baccalaureate degree in household science at the University of Illinois and a master's degree at the University of Chicago. She was a faculty member in the home economics department at University of Idaho, Des Moines College and Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh.
While holding her various positions across the country, Hyde remained in contact with State. She has been published in alumni publications and involved in alumni events for more than 30 years after her time at State.
