Group Fitness Classes
Pre-registration is recommended for in-person group fitness classes and required for online group fitness classes.
To register, log in to the member portal or download the Wellness Center App for easy access to fitness class listings, upcoming events, facility information and more! Find the app in Google Play and the App Store.
Click the ‘Group Fitness’ icon and click on a date or class of interest. This will take you to the member portal.
- You can also use the ‘Program Registrations’ icon, then select ‘Group Fitness’ from the main navigation. Next, select the class of your choice to view the schedule.
Select the ‘REGISTER’ button. Your credentials are used to log on.
- Non-SDState users can sign-up.
- Call 605-688-5521 for your Member Information – ID Number (M number).
Follow the instructions through the member portal, including the cancelation policy and other terms you accept during check out. Follow all the steps to complete the registration process. All classes are free. You will be emailed a confirmation when you complete the process.
- This email confirmation will contain the link to access your virtual group fitness class.
- If you did not receive an e-mail, you likely did not complete the process.

- Registration opens seven days before each class on the member portal and closes one hour before class begins.
- Arrive 10 minutes early before class starts to ensure your reservation in this class.
- If you have not arrived within five minutes of class, your spot is subject to a 'standby' participant.
- As 'standby' participant is someone who would like to attend class, is waiting near the class entrance and has not yet registered for class.
- If class is not full, a 'standby' participant can register and check-in for class up to 10 minutes before the start of class.
- If class is full, a 'standby' participant will be registered and checked-in if a registered participant is a "no-show."
Should you be unable to attend, you can cancel your class by doing the following:
- Log in to the Member Portal. Click on name in top right corner-select “profile”- on left hand side, select “programs”, find class you wish to cancel and select “Cancel”.
- You can also call the Member Services Office 605-688-5521 to process the cancellation.
- If you decide not to attend class, please cancel your registration. If you do not show up for a class you are registered for, you may lose class attendance privileges.

Group Fitness Class Descriptions
Cardio
HIIT stands for High-Intensity Interval Training, which is characterized by periods of high energy and fast heart rates followed by recovery time where the heart rate will slow down. HIIT is known for being an extremely effective cardiorespiratory workout in a short time frame. This class will utilize the entire body with both bodyweight and equipment-based exercises.
Cardio Dance is a full-body workout with easy-to-follow movements that will raise your heart rate as you enjoy popular music and fun dance moves. It is all about enjoying the music and movement, regardless of your dance ability or experience level.
This Latin-inspired dance-fitness class incorporates Latin and International music and dance movements to create a dynamic, exciting and effective fitness program. The class format combines fast and slow rhythms that challenge the body in an aerobic fashion to achieve a unique balance of cardio and muscle-strengthening benefits. Ditch the workout and join the party!
An upbeat and lively dance class that will challenge your muscles to move in new ways all while keeping your heart pumping! Clapping, stomping, shouting and jumping will be encouraged. This will involve a variety of equipment including steps, weighted bars, dumbbells and bands. Arms and legs will be moving in all different directions so get ready to sweat and have a great time!
Cycling
This class is intended to spin your legs and strengthen your core using bodyweight as well as equipment. This motivating and empowering class is great for those looking to make cardio and core strength gains, or incorporate an active recovery day in your week.
Hop on the bike for heart-pumping intervals, then hit the floor for full-body strength moves. Combining both cardio and strength, this efficient and well-rounded workout will leave you feeling sweaty and strong.
This is an amazing cardiovascular workout that works well for participants of all levels. Instructors will lead you through a variety of drills on the bike, such as sprints and hills, taught with motivating music to keep you going and ensure you get the most out of your workout time. Participants can use any stationary bike, or a bike placed on an indoor trainer, to participate in class.
Pool
This little-to-no impact class gives you the opportunity to get a great workout without putting any added stress on your joints. With a variety of cardio, core and strength work you can look forward to a full-body workout, using the water to do what we can't with our feet on the ground. Deep Water X is ideal for participants of all body types and fitness levels. Participants should be comfortable swimming on their own in deep water.
The focus of this class is having fun while using core stability to improve the overall functioning of the body. This Stand Up Paddle Board Class incorporates bodyweight exercises to challenge your balance and your core! Come dressed to get wet, but swim experience is not required.
Come enjoy the practice of Yoga on a Stand Up Paddle Board! These classes take your favorite yoga routines and put them on the water! Expect to get wet and challenge your mind. Both yoga and stand up paddle boarding are great for building better balance, coordination, endurance and body strength. Previous swim experience not required.
This class takes place in the shallow end of the pool, using the buoyancy of water to lessen the impact on your joints. You can expect a variety of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) intervals, plyometrics and strength work for the upper and lower body in this effective, low-impact class. Open to all ability levels. No swim experience required.
Mind and Body
This energetic program will provide a full-body workout with an emphasis on strengthening the core. This class will improve posture, balance and stability while having fun!
Expect this to be a challenging vinyasa yoga class with an emphasis on core work, progressions to a variety of arm and standing balance poses, inversions, back bends and a complex and fast-paced flow. This class is geared towards participants with prior yoga experience, including sun salutations and familiarity with safe alignment in foundational poses. These classes might also include partner work/assists and slowing down to workshop some of the "advanced" asanas. Participants can expect to take their yoga practice to the next level of difficulty.
This slow-paced and alignment-based practice facilitates ease and awareness in the body using a combination of gentle active practice, yin yoga stretches to release tension in the fascia and restorative poses combined with simple breath and meditation techniques. Gentle Yoga is appropriate for anyone from the absolute beginner to the experienced yogi looking to bring an element of deep relaxation to their practice.
Encouraging mental, physical and emotional relaxation, vin + yin yoga is a guided slow placed practice that is focused on deep breathing and slow movement. Open to all abilities, participants can expect to hold poses and stretches for longer periods of time, allowing you to sink deeper into the stretch.
This class combines the strengthening benefits of Pilates with the flexibility enhancing effects of yoga. Set to music, this dynamic, energetic program will provide a full-body workout without straining your body. If you are on the hunt for a new workout, give PiYo a try, especially if you’re already a fan of Pilates or yoga. You may find it’s the best of both worlds, allowing you to dive deeper into your practice.
Open your heart, body and mind in this detoxifying, vinyasa flow. Class will progress to matching one breath per movement to create strong, flow-based sequences that elevate heart rate and build warmth in the body. Intermediate poses are introduced including arm balances, backbends and prep poses for inversions. Vinyasa classes are faster paced; knowledge of yoga postures is helpful but not required.
Encouraging mental, physical and emotional relaxation, Restorative Yoga is a guided slow paced practice that focused on deep breathing and slow movement. Open to all abilities, participants can expect to hold poses and stretches for longer periods of time, allowing you to sink deeper into the stretch.
SilverSneakers
It’s never too late to start living a longer, healthier life. SilverSneakers® classes are led by certified and supportive instructors and intended for participants ages 65+. This class incorporates seated and standing exercises to increase muscular strength, range of motion and activities for daily living.
You probably know that exercise can improve your physical health, but did you know that it can also boost your thinking skills and memory? SilverSneakers® is an innovative fitness program recommended for participants ages 65+. This standing class is designed to decrease the risk of falls with focus on improving balance and lower body strength.
Strength
Calling all active older adults! This class combines strength training and cardio exercises for a comprehensive full-body workout. The class format will be different every time and utilize a variety of equipment to keep you engaged and progressing along your fitness journey.
The instructor will take participants through a workout primarily using barbell exercises, while mixing in different accessory exercises to work every major muscle group in the body - so your muscles leave feeling strong and you leave feeling pumped. Instruction and participation focus is on correct lifting techniques, with the use of moderate to heavy weights and lower repetitions.
This is a class for females who want to learn the basics of weight training and gym etiquette on an open gym floor. Each class is a blend of an educational session and a progressive weight training program to prepare females to feel more comfortable exercising in the standard gym setting. Open to all females, this class places extra emphasis on positive body image, improving self-confidence with fitness principles and providing options for bodies of all shapes and sizes.
This class combines strength training and agility exercises for a comprehensive workout. Let the music, instructor and team atmosphere motivate you to achieve more than you can on your own. A variety of equipment will be used each class to keep your body and your mind engaged.
Bootcamp is a whole-body, functional fitness class that will get you working hard and positively challenge you every step of the way. Enjoy the supportive, upbeat environment focused on motivating each other to reach goals and push limits. This class will utilize a large variety of equipment and exercises, so no 2 classes will be the same!
