Greetings from the Flute Studio at South Dakota State University!
The Flute Studio at South Dakota State University offers many opportunities for the college flutist, whether you are here as a music major or are studying another subject. As a flutist, you will study performance and push your skills to an even higher level within a supportive, friendly environment. Our weekly master class is an opportunity to explore a variety of flute-related topics, such as healthy movement and posture, anatomy for flutists, intonation, famous flutists, new recordings, how to set up a private flute studio and the various new music ideas I bring back from my frequent travels. Our annual Flute Day for middle and high school students brought over 80 flutists to our campus in 2017 for a day filled with workshops, flute choir, performances, an interactive Q&A session with current SDSU flutes and lots of fun!
Recently we’ve had the opportunity to host a variety of fantastic visitors and performers to our campus, including James Galway. These opportunities don’t exist everywhere and we are thrilled to be able to offer them at SDSU.
After your South Dakota State University education, you will be well-prepared, whether you plan to move on to classroom teaching, private teaching, graduate studies or careers outside of music. No matter where your path takes you, your life will be enriched after your time in the Department of Music at SDSU.
