Occupational therapists assist people across the lifespan participate in everyday activities and occupations. They help children with disabilities to participate in school activities, help individuals recovering from injury to regain skills and support older adults experiencing physical and cognitive changes.
The pre-occupational therapy program is a pre-professional curriculum whereby all the necessary prerequisites can be completed in preparation for applying to a school of occupational therapy. All OT’s must earn a graduate degree from an accredited program. The department provides advising to assist each student. A strong undergraduate academic record is important. Schools of occupational therapy offer a master’s degree or doctoral degree. Students must complete a bachelor’s degree and certain number of required courses before applying to a professional occupational therapy program.

In addition, FOCUS 2 Career, a self-guided assessment, education and career planning program, will help you reflect on your values, interests, personality traits and skills to provide valuable insight as you explore major and career choices. SDSU students may access FOCUS 2 Career by using their student email and password. After completing FOCUS 2 Career, you may find it helpful to discuss your results with a career coach in the Office of Career Development.
