Pre-Athletic Training
Pre-athletic training is a pre-professional curriculum whereby all the necessary prerequisites can be completed in preparation for applying to a Masters of athletic training program. SDSU currently has two tracks for admissions into our Masters of Science athletic training program.
Work toward completing your undergraduate degree in a related field as well as all of the pre-athletic training coursework and apply for admission to MSAT program during the final (fourth) year of the undergraduate degree program. If admitted, you will begin the MSAT program during the Summer term immediately after graduation with the undergraduate degree.
Designed specifically in conjunction with our CAAHEP accredited B.S. in exercise science degree at SDSU.
- Work toward completing your undergraduate degree in exercise science, complete all of the pre-athletic training coursework and apply for admission to MSAT program during your third year of the program (may begin the application process as early as the second year).
- Once all application requirements have been met, you will be admitted and begin the MSAT program during the Summer term immediately after the end of your third undergraduate year.
- During your 4th year, you will start completing all necessary requirements for the MSAT program while also completing any remaining requirements for the undergraduate exercise science degree. Your undergraduate degree will be awarded at the end of your forth year, with you also returning for a fifth year to finish all MSAT degree requirements.
You will work with their professional advisor in exercise science as well as the athletic training program director to ensure appropriate academic progress as you work toward completing both degrees
Pre-Physical Therapy
The pre-physical therapy program is a pre-professional curriculum whereby all the necessary prerequisites can be completed in preparation for applying to a school of physical therapy. The department provides advising to assist each student in developing a plan best suited to his/her needs. Acceptance by physical therapy schools is on a competitive basis, therefore, a strong undergraduate academic record is essential. Students must declare an undergraduate major along with the pre-professional curriculum. If you want to go into physical therapy, you are probably looking at earning a doctorate degree. To get there, you must first obtain your bachelors degree and complete a number of prerequisite courses in biology, anatomy, physics, statistics, chemistry, physiology, psychology, professional writing and humanities. Together, these courses make up SDSU's Pre-Physical Therapy program. Make sure to check with each graduate program about any additional requirements that are specific to that program.

Occupational therapy education programs are based on a foundation in the behavioral and biological sciences. Recommended courses include anatomy, physiology, statistics and several psychology courses, all of which are included in SDSU's Pre-occupational therapy program.
