Design and Construction Standards
The design and construction standards have been written to assist architects, engineers, design professionals, contractors, SDSU faculty and SDSU staff in understanding the expectations of South Dakota State University in the development, maintenance and repair of its facilities. The design and construction standards also outline the procedures, policies and basic minimum requirements for materials and products included in construction projects.
It is understood that the basic minimum requirements described within these standards are in addition to the applicable building codes and requirements adopted by the State of South Dakota. The design and construction standards are meant to define procedures and specification divisions that exceed the baseline building code requirements. Where there is no specific recommendation or requirement, the A/E shall exercise their professional judgment. Documents which do not adhere to South Dakota State University standards and procedures for design and construction will be rejected and returned to the A/E for appropriate revisions.
The latest standards were published in 2018 and are available upon request. For more information, please contact our office at 605-688-4136 or email the Facilities and Services Front Desk.
