The South Farm Unit at Oak Lake Field Station includes house, barn, repair shop, storage building and bunkhouse. A riding corral near the barn supports horsemanship classes taught by the SDState horse unit.
Research efforts at the field station are supported by a geographic information system of the Oak Lake watershed, database of climate and water quality monitoring data, fax and Internet/e-mail access at the field lab. IBM compatible computers are available in the field lab for data management, analysis and word processing. Laboratory and field equipment are available on site to facilitate studies of prairie, wetland and lake environments.
Instructional efforts for small classes are supported through our classroom at the Administration Building. Resources within this room include a field station library, teaching microscopes, field equipment, drawing materials, preserved specimens, maps and other materials available for visiting classes and field trips. Our classroom and laboratory building is supported with high speed wireless internet access.
