The Brookings Chamber Music Society has announced its 2024-25 season and fall membership drive. Allied closely to the South Dakota State University School of Performing Arts, the society’s mission is to present the finest in chamber music for the enjoyment of the Brookings community.
The season opens Sunday, Sept. 22, with flutist Dmytro Gnativ. Ukranian-born Gnativ is a graduate of the Lviv National Music Academy and other U.S. schools and specializes in the performance of art music for flute and piano written by composers from his native country.
On Tuesday, Nov. 19, the society presents the New-York based The Queen’s Cartoonists. The six-member group brings animated films to life, perfectly synchronizing the musicians’ performances with films projected on stage.
Friday, March 7, will feature a performance by the Colere Quartet. The saxophone quartet was the first-prize winner of both the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition and the Plowman Chamber Music Competition. The quartet’s appearance will be in conjunction with the North American Saxophone Alliance regional conference hosted by South Dakota State University.
The season closes with a performance by the Dakota String Quartet on Tuesday, March 25. The quartet is comprised of the string section principals of the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra.
Season subscriptions are available now through the SDSU School of Performing Arts in the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center. An adult season subscription is priced at $50 and includes all four concerts. The series is sponsored in part by the National Endowment for the Arts, the South Dakota Arts Council and Arts Midwest.
