The Veterans Affairs Resource Center has partnered with the Animal Science Department and is offering Horses for Heroes. Equine interaction is an activity in order to promote physical, occupational and emotional growth. Equine therapy can help the individual build confidence, self- efficiency, communication, trust, perspective, social skills, impulse control and learn boundaries. Since the horses have similar behaviors as us, such as social and responsive behaviors, it is easy for the individuals to create a connection with the horse. The program encourages physical and cognitive growth by learning more about horses and there therapeutic nature, providing Veterans with a safe environment to engage in something new.
The following video shares how veterans have benefited from a similar program. Video from Man O' War Project.
