The University Archives Collection contains official and unofficial material from all aspects of the university, including publications and records from campus departments, historic material documenting the early days of SDSU, historic records of campus organizations.
SDSU Archives strives to collect and maintain records having permanent historical value to South Dakota State University, including administrative records, departmental and student group records, faculty papers, publications, Agricultural Experiment and Cooperative Extension materials and materials from individuals and organizations associated with the university.
Preservation copies of all material published by any department or area of the university are also retained. These materials include, but are not limited to, catalogs, brochures, flyers, informational bulletins, promotional materials, programs and other material printed by organizations related to or a part of the university.

Academic Affairs Records (UA 2)
Academic Affairs deals with all aspects of academic affairs, including curriculum, faculty development, scholarship requirements, advising, honorary degrees and dishonesty appeal. This collection is composed of general office files, institutional program reviews, department standards, subject files, committee files, curriculum requests and files dealing with the arrangement of commencement exercises.
Academic Evaluation and Assessment Office Records (UA 21)
The Academic Evaluation and Assessment office coordinates several areas of assessment and provides various testing services to the university students and community. The collection is composed of reports produced by the Academic Evaluation and Assessment Office as a result of educational tests and measurements made by the office. Also included is material related to academic proficiency of students, entering student profiles and placement examinations.
Academic Senate - SEE: Faculty Senate and Related Committees Records (UA 4)
University Committees are empowered to conduct serious, thoughtful analyses of the issues appropriate to that Committee and to make recommendations to the Faculty Senate and administration. This collection is composed of material related to Administrative Committees, the Academic Senate, the Committee on Committees and other university related Boards and committees, such as the South Dakota Board of Regents and the Hobo Day Committee.
Academic Women's Equity Coalition Collection (UA 50.10)
The Academic Women's Equity Coalition worked to identify, investigate and seek solutions related to issues of equity at South Dakota State University, provided opportunity for the exchange of information and ideas related to academic women's issues, and served as support and action group for faculty women. This collection is composed of clippings, membership and committee lists, correspondence, meeting agenda, programs, finances and a brief history of the coalition.

The Office of Admissions deals with enrollment, and admission and transfer evaluation. The collection is composed mainly of promotional material sent to prospective students. Also included is material related to orientation for new students.
Administrative Council Records (UA 50.6)
The Administrative Council discussed questions of administration or policy brought forth by the president, or to discuss any other questions brought up the any council member. The collection consists of minutes of the meetings and some correspondence of both the Administrative Council and its predecessor, the Council of Deans.

Aldrich, J.M. Diaries (UA 53.14)
J.M. Aldrich was a student at Dakota Agricultural College who was employed as an assistant in entomology at the college after graduation. He went on to become a dipterist for the Smithsonian Institution. This collection consists of three diaries of J. M. Aldrich during his tenure as a student at Dakota Agricultural College from 1885-1888.
Alexander, Ruth Ann Papers (UA 53.22)
Ruth Ann Alexander was professor and head of the English Department. This collection is composed of files related to her writing and speeches, records related to her term on the Brookings School Board, Chautauqua and with her term as head of the English Department. Also included is material related to various other activities in which Alexander was involved.
Alumni Association Records (UA 17.0)
The SDSU Alumni Association is an independent, not-for-profit organization, non-dues association that connects alumni to SDSU and each other, through the promotion of the university and by providing valuable benefits, services and resources to members. This collection is composed of publications and promotional material produced by the Office of the Director of the Alumni Association, including State Magazine and other newsletters.
American Indian Student Center Records (UA 63.1)
This collection focuses on the role of the American Indian Student Center on the South Dakota State University campus from 2000 to 2012. Included are materials related to events, fundraisers and trips planned by the American Indian Student Center.
American Indian Student Association Records (UA 63.3)
The American Indian Student Association provides an outlet for Indigenous people on campus to share and learn about their own culture, heritage and values. It is composed mainly of materials pertaining to the Native American Club’s activities on campus, including the South Dakota State University Wacipi (powwow).
American Indian and Indigenous Studies Program Records (UA 63.2)
The American Indian and Indigenous studies program focuses on the past and present understanding of Indigenous people with an emphasis on making a better future for Indigenous people. This collection is composed mainly of material pertaining to the American Indian History Conference and Consider the Century program.
Animal Science, Department of Records (UA 5.5)
The Department of Animal Science strives to excel in the three primary missions of a land grant university which are learning, discovery and engagement. The collection is composed mainly of publications generated by the Animal and Range Sciences Department.
125th Anniversary Planning Committee Records (UA 51.5)
The 125th Anniversary Planning Committee was formed to guide the university through the celebration of its 125th anniversary. This collection is composed of materials produced and collection by the 125th Anniversary Planning Committee. Folders include minutes, clippings, event invitations and programs, publications, photographs, audio-visual material, departmental histories and memorabilia.
Apparel Merchandising and Interior Design, Department of Records (UA 9.2)
The Department of Apparel Merchandising and Interior Design provides knowledge applicable to careers in the fashion industry including production, wholesaling and retailing and for consumer acquisition and use of apparel and household textiles. The collection is composed of general departmental records which consist of material such as program evaluation reports, posters, programs, and course announcements; and the Adaline Snellman Hsia Historic Costume and Decorative Arts Collection records, which consists mainly of correspondence, clippings and photographs.
Army Administration Schools, Enlisted Branch No. 3 Collection (UA 50.9)
The Army Administration Schools trained clerks for general army administration duty in the Air Corps. This collection is composed of a history, report of a survey and a scrapbook related to the Army Administration School on the campus of South Dakota State College during World War II. Also included is a small amount of material related to the Army Specialized Training Program.

The College of Arts and Sciences offers programs in the arts, humanities, social and behavioral sciences, and natural sciences. This collection is composed of correspondence, publications and various records generated by the Office of the Dean of College of Arts and Sciences. Included are newsletters, brochures, records and correspondence.
Athenian Literary Society Records (UA 35.1)
The Athenian Literary Society developed its members in oratory, debate, and extemporaneous speaking and to promote social activities. This collection is composed of the constitution and by-laws for the society as well as programs for graduation exercises and plays presented by the society.
Athletics, Jackrabbit Records (UA 46.0)
South Dakota State University has been active in intercollegiate athletics since the 1920s. The university participated in the Division II North Central conference until the start of the 2008-2009 academic year when the university became an active member of NCAA Division I. This collection is composed of material related to athletics at South Dakota State University. Included are files regarding administration, the Athletics Committee, publications, the Women’s Recreation Association and files related to specific sports (e.g. baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, cross country, football, rodeo, soccer, swimming and diving, tennis, track and field, volleyball and wrestling).

Barnes, Allen Papers (UA 53.3)
Allen Barnes was Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences from 1967-1985. This collection consists of material related to the Centennial celebration of South Dakota State University, Barnes’ term as dean of arts and sciences, and his work on getting a Performing Arts Center established on campus.
Berg, Sherwood O. Papers (UA 53.13)
Sherwood Berg was president of SDSU from 1975-1984. This collection consists of material related to the National Advisory Commission on Food and Fiber established by President Lyndon B. Johnson on Nov. 4, 1965 on which Sherwood O. Berg served as chairperson.
Billow, Joye Ann Papers (UA 53.25)J
Joye Ann Billow was a professor of pharmaceutical sciences and licensed pharmacist throughout her career. She joined the South Dakota State University College of Pharmacy faculty in 1972 and served for 30 years until her retirement in 2002. She was faculty advisor to the SDSU Chi chapter of the Kappa Epsilon Fraternity for women pharmacy students. The collection is primarily composed of collected photographs, Billow’s awards and writings and her family’s genealogical documents.
Biology and Microbiology, Department of Records (UA 5.6)
The Biology and Microbiology Department at offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in biological science. The collection is composed of publications generated by the Biology and Microbiology Department, included are pamphlets, newsletters and posters.
Boarding Club Ledgers (UA 52.6)
The Boarding Club managed student resident housing and dining. The collection is composed of ledgers for the Boarding Club. Included are records for expenses, board, labor and refunds for students who were members of the club.
Hilton M. Briggs was president at South Dakota State University from 1958 to 1975. The collection is composed of material related to his retirement, recognition, and his life after retirement. Included are biographical materials, clippings, correspondence, writings, photographs and scrapbooks.
Brookings Veterans Society Records (UA 35.2)
The Brookings Veterans Society consisted of discharged and separated personnel of the United States Armed Forces that were registered as students at South Dakota State University. This collection is composed of correspondence, accounting reports, constitution and by-laws, forms, membership and project data and newsletters.
Brown, George Lincoln (UA 53.59)
George L. Brown was born on January 25, 1869. He attended a preparatory school at the University of Missouri. Where he also received both his B.S. and M.S. degrees at the university of Missouri. He started at South Dakota State in 1897 as a mathematics professor. He eventually became a dean, vice president and president during his tenure. He received his president emeritus in 1944.

Burns, Robert V. Papers (UA 53.19)
Bob Burns was a professor of political science and director of the Honors College. This collection is composed of minutes, agenda and correspondence associated with the various committees and commissions on which he served, and a small amount on material dealing with his State Representative campaign in 1980.

The Career Center provides services that assists students with planning for careers. This collection is composed mainly of newsletters and flyers for job fairs, practice interview sessions and etiquette dinners. Also included is a file dealing with tutoring programs.
Matt Cecil was a media historian and associate professor of journalism and mass communication. This collection is composed of Cecil's research of the relationships of journalists and J. Edgar Hoover’s FBI from 1928 to 1972.
Centennial Steering Committee Records (UA 51.1)
The Centennial Steering Committee was formed on July 16, 1979, to guide the university through the celebration of its Centennial year (1981). This collection is composed of committee files produced for or in conjunction with the Centennial Celebration of South Dakota State University held in 1981.
Chemistry and Biochemistry, Department of Records (UA 6.5)
The mission of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is to provide a rigorous, student-centered, practical education offering multiple and varied opportunities to explore traditional and nontraditional career options that are open to our chemistry majors. The collection is composed mainly of newsletters produced by the Chemistry Department. Also included are programs for various lecture series sponsored by the department.
Civil and Environmental Engineering, Department of Records (UA 8.1)
Civil engineering includes the location, design, construction and the operation and maintenance of highways, airports, buildings, bridges, dams, water supply and distribution systems, waste water collection systems and treatment plants, irrigation and drainage systems, river and harbor improvements and many other infrastructure facilities essential in modern life. The collection is composed mainly of material for a course in solid waste engineering and management. Also included are brochures, fact sheets and other material related to the department.
College on the Hill Research and Manuscript Collection (UA 17.1)
"The College on the Hill" is an anecdotal history of South Dakota State University from 1881 to 2003 co-written by Amy Dunkle and V.J. Smith, Alumni Association director. This collection is composed of manuscript materials and research gathered for the writing of the book for the book "College on the Hill."
Commerce Department Records (UA 6.15)
The Commerce Department included secretarial courses, and commercial or business courses. The collection is composed of a pamphlet and an offprint from the college catalogue.
Communication Studies and Theater, Department of Records (UA 6.1)
The Department of Communication Studies and Theater offers majors in theater or speech communication with an optional emphasis in speech. This collection is composed of materials produced by the communication studies and Theater Department. Included is material related to the Prairie Repertory Theater and State University Theater.
Continuing and Extended Education, Office of Records (UA 15)
The Office of Continuing and Extended Education offers undergraduate and graduate courses using various distance education technologies. This collection is composed of general office material conference and workshop materials, University Week for Women records and distance education records.
Cooperative Extension Service Records (UA 5.4)
SDSU Extension's purpose is to foster a learning community environment that empowers citizens to advocate for sustainable change that will strengthen agriculture, natural resources, youth, families and the communities of South Dakota. This collection is composed of records generated by the Cooperative Extension Service and includes general administrative materials, 4-H publications, personnel communications, news releases and the South Dakota AgrAbility Project.
Council of Higher Education [COHE] Collection (UA 49)
This collection is composed of agreements between the South Dakota Board of Regents [SD BOR] and the Council of Higher Education, by-laws, charters, constitutions, correspondence, newsletters, salary lists, membership lists and SDSU workload policies.
Cuba Trip Collection (UA 46.1)
Five members of the South Dakota State University basketball team took part in a 1977 trip to Cuba as part of a South Dakota Delegation. The collection composed of material related to a 1977 trip to Cuba arranged by Sen. George McGovern in which five members of the South Dakota State University basketball team were a part.

The Dairy Club provides outstanding activities designed to provide valuable experience and entertainment for students interested in dairying. The collection is composed of annual reports, the Dairy Digest, a periodical published by the Dairy Club and a scrapbook compiled in 1985 for the Dairy Club.
Dairy Science, Department of Records (UA 5.7)

Dakota Agricultural College Board of Regents Ledger (UA 52.3)
The Dakota Agricultural College Board of Regents was formed to establish and organize the Dakota Agricultural College. This collection is composed of the original ledger of minutes of the Board of Regents for the Dakota Agricultural College from 1884-1895. Also included is a petition, signed by many students of Dakota Agricultural College requesting that the English/History professor be removed from his post.
DeLong, H.H. Collection (UA 53.82)
H.H. Delong gained worldwide recognition for his classification of rammed earth; a procedure originally designed for affordable poultry coups. This collection is composed of publications related to rammed earth structures and some biographical material.

David B. Doner was registrar at South Dakota State College. This collection is composed of a scrapbook, which largely documents his career of public service.
Dornbush, James N. Papers (UA 53.18)
Jim Dornbush was a member of the civil engineering faculty. He did extensive research and consultation in water pollution control and sanitary engineering. This collection is composed of reports on experiments conducted at the Big Stone Power Plant, collected material, files related to his consulting work with Dorand Engineering Services, personal material consisting of correspondence, class lectures, research, community involvement and publications.

Eastern South Dakota Science and Engineering Fair Collection (UA 50.14)
The Eastern South Dakota Science and Engineering Fair allows students to showcase projects that exhibit not only scientific, but creative, ideas. This collection consists of information and materials of the Eastern South Dakota Science and Engineering Fair, such as programs, brochures, budgets, correspondence, participant information, awards, news stories, photographs and a scrapbook; as well as information and materials of the International Science and Engineering Fair, such as rule books, books of research abstracts and participant information.
Economics Club Records (UA 35.17)
The South Dakota State University Economics stimulates interest in the profession of economics and related fields, foster a spirit of cooperation and mutual helpfulness among students in the social sciences, and provide an opportunity for wider acquaintances among students and professional workers in the Social Sciences. Engineering Extension assists the private and public sectors of the state with their technical needs for the purpose of economic development. The collection is composed of newsletters and pamphlets published by Engineering Extension.
Engineering Resource Center Records (UA 8.5)
The Engineering Resource Center, established in 1986, exists to serve the university, citizens and industry in South Dakota. The collection is composed of material generated by programs within the Engineering Resource Center: Office of Remote Sensing, South Dakota Space Grant Consortium, South Dakota Local Transportation Assistance Program, University/Industry Technology Service, Publications and Essential Networking and Training for Entrepreneurship.

The Faculty Association papers represent the initial founding of the South Dakota State College [SDSC] The Faculty Association in 1946 and its evolution through the years.

Faculty Meetings was an informational meeting held by the university president to inform faculty of happenings both on campus and off. The collection is composed of the minutes from faculty meetings held at South Dakota State University from its inception up through the 1980s.

The Fenn Inner-City Scholarship offered students an opportunity to learn about other ways of life by spending six weeks living and working in inner city Denver. The collection is composed of scrapbooks, journals, photographs and miscellaneous materials related to the Florence and Geraldine Fenn Inner-City Scholarship.

The office of Finance and Business serves as the headquarters for administrative fiscal operations for the university. This collection is composed of accounting records, budget requests and financial reports.

The Financial Aid Office administers student financial assistance programs, including federal and state financial aid, scholarships and governmental agency awards. This collection is composed mainly of scholarship pamphlets. Also included is a small amount of material dealing with financial aid information.

Gambill, Norman Papers (UA 6.9.2)
Norman Gambill was a scholar in art history and film studies, he was head of the Visual Arts Department for 26 years retiring in 2010. This collections in composed of his while he was department head of Visual Arts at SDSU from 1984 to 2010. Also included are unpublished manuscripts, Ph.D. thesis and personal legal documents.
Gamma Sigma Delta Records (UA 35.16)
Gamma Sigma Delta, also known as the Honor Society of Agriculture, is a professional agricultural fraternity. The South Dakota State University chapter of the society was established on May 27, 1958. The collection includes the society's constitutions, programs, yearly records of activities and financial records.

This collection is composed mainly of slides and photographs related to Gardner's research on virus diseases of plants, with a focus on wheat streak mosaic virus and tobacco mosaic virus.

This collection is composed of materials created by F. Robert Gartner in relation to his research on range management and prescribed burning, activities, presentations and writings.
Geography Club (Gamma Theta Upsilon) Records (UA 35.4)
The Geography Club furthers professional interest in geography, strengthens academic training and encourages student research. The collection is composed of programs, news releases, and commemorative books for the annual South Dakota State Geography Convention. Dr. William Gibbons is an industrial microbiologist and his research interests are in exploiting microbes to develop value added products from biomass and agricultural materials. This has included developing fuels and chemicals from biomass as replacements for petroleum-based products. Hobo Day Collection {UA 62) Preserving Historic Hobo Day
Hobo Day is the homecoming celebration for South Dakota State University and includes a parade through campus, Downtown Brookings, a Jackrabbits football game, and many unique traditions. The first Hobo Day occurred on Nov. 2, 1912. Homecoming thrives at South Dakota State University and is the largest one-day event in the state. The return of alumni to their alma mater for a weekend of football, fun, and memories has flourished and grown over the decades, embodying the essence of Jackrabbit Pride.
This collection is an artificial collection composed of collected materials, publications, and ephemera related to Hobo Day. Material is added as it is unearthed. It consists of clippings, correspondence, news releases, buttons, bumper stickers, hats, posters, a t-shirt and photographs.

The Home Economics Club was made up of students interested in professional Home Economics and in homemaking. The collection is composed of newsletters, handbooks, a scrapbook and secretary books from the beginning of the club to 1956.
Home Management Records (UA 9.1)
The Home Management programs taught students management of household operations and child care. The collection is composed of photographs and miscellaneous material about the Home Management program at South Dakota State College. Included are photographs of children who participated in the program, a history of the program and plans for a new laboratory, the Family Resource and Management Center.

R.F. Kerr was librarian at South Dakota State College beginning in 1885. This collection consists primarily of correspondence, diaries and other writings from Kerr’s life in South Dakota and elsewhere. Also includes items from his teaching career, including class records and items collected during his Japanese teaching experience. The bulk of material is correspondence.

Frank Klock was a professor of photography at South Dakota State University. This collection is composed of born digital photographs of South Dakota State University buildings.

J. Howard Kramer was a professor, head of the education department, and director of the Summer School. Lewis, James K. "Tex," Papers (UA 53.33)
James K. “Tex” Lewis was a professor of animal and range sciences at South Dakota State University from 1950 to 1985. The collection comprises his work in teaching and research in range management and range livestock nutrition. It includes studies and projects conducted primarily at the Cottonwood Range Field Station, Antelope Range Field Station and the Badlands region of South Dakota. The materials cover various topics such as cattle weights, clip plot data analysis, soil moisture samples and utilization studies. They also demonstrate collaborative efforts with prominent organizations.

Steve Marquardt was Dean of Library at South Dakota State University. This collection is composed mainly of material gathered by Marquardt in relation to independent Cuban libraries.
Martin, Dave Papers (UA 53.27)
Five members of the South Dakota State University (SDSU) Men’s Basketball Team participated in a trip to Cuba in 1977 as part of a South Dakota delegation led by Sens. George McGovern and James Abourezk. This collection comprises material related to the 1977 trip to Cuba, including photographs, slides, newspaper clippings and programs. Also part of the collection are letters and other documents that detail the effort that went into making such an endeavor happen. David Martin, former sports information director at South Dakota State University, created and compiled these material.

Mechanical Engineering, Department of Records (UA 8.4)
The Department of Mechanical Engineering is oriented toward applied problem solving; to conduct meaningful research which broadens the base of engineering and scientific knowledge with a regional emphasis; and to provide technology-based and related managerial assistance to existing and emerging businesses, industry and government. The collection is composed of a program from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers conference held at South Dakota State University in 1950 and invitations to banquets for retiring faculty members.

The Department of Military Science, also called Army ROTC, trains and develops cadets to be leaders – leaders in the Army and leaders in today’s world. The department commissions officers into the active Army, Army National Guard and the Army Reserve. Miller, John E. Papers (UA 53.15)
John E. Miller was a professor of history at South Dakota State University, where he taught courses in recent American history, South Dakota history and historical methods since 1974. He was the author of many books and articles on Midwestern politics, creativity, Laura Ingalls Wilder, small town culture and other American history topics. Material consists of course material, oral history interviews, talks, presentations, workshops, Laura Ingalls Wilder, writings and research.

O’Neill was program manager for the Office of Remote Sensing. Her responsibilities progressed from technician duties to training and management. She served SDSU as a researcher, instructor and project manager. She specialized in geospatial technologies, remote sensing, geographic information systems and global positioning systems. The papers are composed of course material, college course notes, files related to her work with AmericaView, South Dakota View, Upper Midwest Aerospace Consortium and South Dakota State University. Also included is material related to the many research projects related to geospatial technologies, remote sensing, geographic information systems and global positioning systems.

Pearson, David F. Papers (UA 3.1)
David F. Pearson began his career as a professor of economics at South Dakota State College in 1957. In 1959, President Briggs appointed him special assistant to the president. In 1973, he was name to the newly created position of vice president of administration. The collection contains files from the office of David F. Pearson while serving as vice president for administration and consists mainly of correspondence and files dealing with the F. O. Butler Foundation, the engineering controversy of the early 1970s, and material dealing with the celebration of the United States Bicentennial celebration on the campus of South Dakota State University.

Philosophy and Religion, Department of Records (UA 6.12)
Philosophy deals with the fundamental questions of life, including the nature of knowledge, the basis of morality and politics and the rational analysis of religious beliefs. The study of religion introduces students to the various historical and contemporary expressions of diverse religious traditions as a dimension of the human experience. Sewrey, Charles L. Papers (UA 53.10)
Charles L. Sewrey taught political sciences, economics and history. This collection consists of collected materials presumably used for research, correspondence and writing and miscellaneous materials. Manuscripts and published works are devoted primarily to anti-Catholicism.

South Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station Records (UA 5.3)
The South Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station's mission is one of the cornerstones of a land grant university. In addition to enhancing the quality of life in our state, our research directly supports the teaching programs offered by the College of Agriculture and Biological Sciences, the College of Education and Human Sciences and the educational program delivered by SDSU Extension. The collection is composed of material generated by the stations and includes financial reports, general office records, research, institutional reviews and publications, including some bulletins and circulars. The South Dakota Agricultural Heritage Museum is the official state museum that collects, preserves, and interprets the history, and science of agriculture and rural life in South Dakota. This collection is composed of newsletters, brochures, and direct mail related to exhibits.
South Dakota Art Museum Records (UA 38)
Established in 1970, the South Dakota Art Museum acquires and cares for works of art, which preserves the rich and varied artistic legacy of South Dakota. The collection is composed of records related to the director of the museum, exhibition records, Board of Trustees records and Guild records. Folders consist of meeting minutes, correspondence, files related to the operation of the museum, and files and photographs related to gallery exhibitions.
South Dakota Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (SDAIAW) Records (UA 46.2)
The SDIAWA was formed in 1971 to coordinate athletic activities for women in colleges and universities in South Dakota. It was a subunit of the national Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW), and belonged to Region VI of that organization. The SDAIAW dissolved on June 15, 1982. The collection contains correspondence, meeting minutes, reports, competition results, and governance documents for the South Dakota Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (SDAIAW).

The South Dakota Board of Regents is the constitutional governing board for the six South Dakota universities and two special schools. South Dakota Eminent Leaders in Agriculture, Family and Community Records (UA 50.13)
The Eminent Farmer and Homemaker program began in 1927 by South Dakota State College, now South Dakota State University. The purpose was to recognize and to express appreciation to outstanding farmers/ranchers and homemakers in South Dakota; these people are the outstanding leaders in rural South Dakota. The collection is composed of scrapbooks, photographs, citations, and publications related to Eminent Farmer and Homemaker Program and South Dakota State University.
South Dakota EPSCoR Records (Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research) (UA 56)
The South Dakota EPSCoR program is designed to assist states in establishing a self-sustaining academic research enterprise with the competitive capability that will contribute to the states' economic viability and development. This collection is composed mainly of proposals to the National Science Foundation for research project. Also included are annual and semi-annual reports, publications, minutes and some conference material.
South Dakota Water Resources Institute Records (UA 5.11)
The South Dakota Water Resources Institute (WRI) at South Dakota State University provides leadership on evolving water concerns and problems being faced by South Dakota citizens through research, educational opportunities for students and professionals and community outreach.
This collection is composed of departmental records of the Institute, as well as collected reports dealing with the Missouri River Basin Project.

The Stakota Club promoted pep and spirit at university basketball and football games. Stuart, Joseph and Signe Papers (UA 53.65)
Joseph and Signe Stuart worked and taught in Brookings for several decades. Signe Stuart was a professor of art at SDSU from 1972 to 1994 and Joe Stuart served as director and curator at the South Dakota Art Museum. The collection is composed of the work history of Joseph and Signe Stuart. Materials consist of lecture notes, correspondence, retirement material, material related to Signe's Badlands intermedia performance at South Dakota State University, art exhibition material, photographs, videos, sketches and biographical information.

Summer Session, Director of Records (UA 50.15)
The director of the Summer School carried out the policies directing the summer session program and authorized the various activities inherent in the summer session program as delegated to the director by the university president. This collection is composed of summer session report written by the director of the Summer Session.
Harry Svec was born on Dec. 26, 1916, in Nebraska. He graduated from the school of agriculture in 1936. He started as an assistant professor at SDSU in 1940. Where he taught welding and forging classes, and he retired from SDSU in 1982. He received the Emeritus of Engineering shops upon his retirement. Harry Passed away May 17, 1999.

Trump, Alfred G., Jr. Papers (UA 53.39)
Alfred G. Trump, Jr (1907-1994) was the head librarian at South Dakota State College in 1948 and was named director of its libraries in 1959. He held this position until his retirement in 1972. He continued as its archivist emeritus until 1977 and was also instrumental in the logistical challenges of its move of from Lincoln Library to the Hilton M. Briggs Library in 1977. The papers consist mostly of materials related to Trump’s retirement from the South Dakota State University Library, including scrapbooks and programs. Other items in the collection include certificates and plaques.

Marketing and Communications supports the advancement activities of its Foundation, Alumni Association and Admissions Office. The collection is composed of items published by University Relations, with most of the material being Today at State, Faculty Bulletin, University Bulletin, SDSU (South Dakota State University) Update and E-Connect. Also included is a small amount of material dealing with the graphic identity of the university.
University Program Council Collection (UA 33)
The University Program Council is designed to serve as the primary programming organization at SDSU and is composed of various committees for programs and special projects or events. The collection is composed of posters, newsletter, clippings, programs, pamphlets, brochures and publications for events sponsored by the University Programs Council, including the arts, concerts, Hobo Day and other special events.

Van Zante, Helen J. Endowment Collection (UA 50.8)
The Helen J. Van Zante Endowment supported visiting professors on such subjects as housing, home furnishings and household technology. This collection consists of material related to design forums and visiting artist professorships held at South Dakota State University in relation to the Van Zante Endowment in connection with the College of Family and Consumer Sciences and the Department of Visual Arts.
Veterans Advising Records (UA 28)
The Veterans Advising office was set up following World War II to assist the veterans in making the transition to college, as well as assist them with paperwork and monetary support. This collection is composed of certificates for tuition and records of tuition waived for war veterans and a pamphlet explaining the G. I. Bill for veterans published by South Dakota State College.

The mission of Department of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences is to protect and improve the health of animals, the viability of the South Dakota livestock industry and the welfare of society through high quality diagnostic, research, Extension and teaching activities. The collection is composed of newsletters, reports, photographs, and booklets from conferences, symposiums and workshops of the Department of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences and the South Dakota Animal Disease Research and Diagnostic Laboratory.

Volstorff, Vivian V. Papers (UA 53.12)
Vivian Volstorff was dean of women, director of student activities and professor of history. This collection consists of material from Volstorff’s time as dean of women, records from her work with campus organizations, planning documents, and personal information and correspondence. Also included are Volstorff’s many speeches and writings, including research and drafts for her book, Winds of Change.

Robert T. Wagner, president of South Dakota State University, 1985-1997. Papers related to his career at SDSU as a teacher and administrator.
Wahlstrom, Richard C. Papers (UA 53.26)
Dr. Richard C. Wahlstrom was a professor at South Dakota State University who served as head professor in the Department of Animal Husbandry. He later served as the department head of Animal Husbandry for eight years. He holds the prestigious title of Distinguished Professor Emeritus at SDSU as well. The collection is comprised mainly of articles written by Wahlstrom and associates as well as speeches and talks given by Wahlstrom relating to his research involving the swine nutrition.
Water and Environmental Engineering Research Center Records (UA 8.7)
The Water and Environmental Engineering Research Center conducts research, education and outreach activities through principal investigators who are faculty members in the Engineering College. This collection is composed of center records, Atmospheric, Environmental, and Water Resources Ph.D. program records, research projects and the Huron Recharge project records.
Women's Studies Program Records (UA 6.17)
The Women's Studies Program was an interdisciplinary program enabling the student to select courses dealing directly or indirectly with women, including the development of feminism, women's changing roles in the family, religion, the labor force and politics. The collection is composed of Women’s History Month material, Woman of Distinction Awards Tea material, sponsored programs and material describing the Women’s Studies minor.
