Studio art seniors to display thesis exhibition in February

Four South Dakota State University seniors are presenting their Bachelor of Fine Arts thesis exhibition on campus this month.

The exhibition, titled “Visual Voyages,” is set for Feb. 12-23 and will include paintings, printmaking, ceramics and sculptures, which are the work of students Katelyn Engel, Jake Heunisch, Nicole Strande and Shane Waikel.

A studio art major with a specialization in art education, Engel is the daughter of Bruce Engel and Lynnette Harp of Hays, Kansas. She is a 2020 graduate of Hays High School.

Heunisch, a studio art major with a specialization in painting, is the son of Anne Cole of Burnsville, Minnesota. He is a 2020 graduate of Eastview High School. 

Strande, a studio art major with a specialization in painting, is the daughter of Curt and Mary Strande of Brookings. She is a graduate of Vermillion High School. 

Waikel, a studio art major with a specialization in art education, is the husband of Chandra Waikel of Oldham. He is a 1995 graduate of Lake Preston High School. 

The public exhibition will be displayed in the Ritz Gallery of Grove Hall at SDSU, located south of the University Student Union between Mathews and Brown residence halls. Admission is free, and parking is available in the union lot. The Ritz Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (closed weekends and holidays). 

A public reception will be held from 4-6 p.m. Feb. 23 in the Ritz Gallery.
