SDSU faculty member honored for sustainability work

The Upper Midwest Association for Campus Sustainability recently honored Chris Comstock, a faculty member in South Dakota State University's School of Health and Consumer Sciences, with their "Educator Re(Cognition)" award.
 
Comstock became the fourth educator to win the award and the first from SDSU. 
 
“Being recognized for this award is a tremendous honor," Comstock said. "I always tell my students that food is not merely sustenance; it’s culture, community and conversation. It’s a powerful force that connects us to each other and to the environment we’re surrounded by."
 
The educator award is given to faculty who have made significant contributions to their campus sustainability efforts through outstanding instruction and mentorship. Further, recipients incorporate sustainability and exemplify sustainable behavior in their research, course content, and green teaching practices. 
 
“As a nutrition professional, I believe it is my responsibility to guide individuals toward choices that nourish not only their bodies but also the planet, and I hope this recognition will inspire others to adopt sustainable practices and advocate for a more sustainable food system,” Comstock said. 
 
Comstock, who has been with SDSU since 2015, lectures on nutrition and directs the didactic program in dietetics. He also serves as the faculty advisor for SDSU's Nutrition and Health Sciences Club.
