SDSU cited for having best online nursing program in South Dakota

South Dakota State University’s online nursing program ranks first in the state and 45th nationally, according to EduMed.

Since 2019, EduMed has released annual rankings that highlight that year’s top programs based on a combination of factors like affordability, accessibility and commitment to student success.

The organization noted the SDSU College of Nursing has six online programs—the RN to Bachelor of Science in Nursing and five graduate programs—and an economical tuition rate with 50% of its enrollment taking online courses.

Other ranking criteria are the percent of full-time undergraduate students who are awarded institutional grant aid, the availability of academic and career counseling, and student/teacher ratio (17:1 at SDSU).

“These rankings provide validation of the high level of quality and value we are able to provide our students through an online environment,” said Mary Anne Krogh ’85/’11 Ph.D., the College of Nursing’s dean. “We pride ourselves on the innovative teaching methods used by faculty to reach students across the state and nation as they seek to complete their undergraduate and graduate nursing degrees.”

EduMed’s rankings use the latest official data available from The Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System, which is self-reported by schools. The rankings for the 2023-24 academic year come from data pulled in July 2023. Only accredited schools are considered in the rankings.
