SDSU has administered the campus climate survey in 2017, 2019, 2020 and 2022. A campus climate survey is designed to assess and evaluate the campus culture, as well as provide an opportunity for the entire SDSU community to share perspectives on its experiences engaging with the university.
The information from the survey is used to develop strategic priorities related to the campus environment and all who interact with the SDSU community, including all students, future students, alumni, visitors, faculty, staff and stakeholders.
SDSU uses the Skyfactor Campus Climate, Safety and Sexual Assault Assessment, which measures 15 dimensions of faculty, staff and student perception and satisfaction with the institution. The survey focuses on perceptions, the work environment, interactions with university populations, campus safety, accessibility, diversity, and perceptions and knowledge of institutional policies, procedures and training in compliance with Title IX.
Several critical areas continue to show the strength of SDSU over the four separate surveys, including SDSU being a welcoming and respectful institution, treating faculty and staff fairly, providing employees with a quality work environment and making campus accessibility, safety and overall security a priority. Campus accessibility showed the biggest gain from the first survey in 2017 to the most recent in 2022.
Personal attitudes and behaviors continue to be important to all employees, meaning that SDSU is a welcoming campus for students, faculty and colleagues from diverse backgrounds. Additionally, institutional and individual responses to sexual assault continue to show that there is a high awareness among faculty, staff and students pertaining to policies and resources available in the event of a sexual assault.
Priorities for SDSU in the coming months include improved perception of the institution and awareness of the role administration has at SDSU and in the state’s higher education system.
