Saikat Basu, assistant professor in South Dakota State University's Department of Mechanical Engineering, has been invited to the American Society of Mechanical Engineering Rising Stars of Mechanical Engineering Celebration and Showcase.
START-SD team at SDSU begins work to address substance use disorder, support prisoner reentry
A team from the Community Practice Innovation Center at South Dakota State University has been awarded a $3 million grant to expand and facilitate services for individuals transitioning out of South Dakota prison systems. The grant, which comes from the Health Resources and Services Administration, will continue the START-SD (Stigma, Treatment, Avoidance and Recovery in Time) work on prevention, treatment and recovery for substance use disorder in South Dakota.
Utility group honors NorthWestern’s Sydow
Retired NorthWestern Energy general manager Mike Sydow has been awarded the 2024 Wayne E. Knabach Excellence in Power Award.
The award is given by the Center for Power Systems Studies, a group of utilities and electrical firms that work with the electrical engineering department at South Dakota State University to promote the industry through and to students and faculty. The Knabach Award is a lifetime achievement award named for a longtime electrical engineering professor.
Sydow, a 1978 electrical engineering graduate from SDSU who spent his entire career with NorthWestern Energy, received the award at the center’s annual banquet Sept. 30.South Dakota State honors newest endowment holders

The third annual University Leadership Honors investiture ceremony — honoring six holders of endowed positions across three different colleges and SDSU Athletics — was held Sept. 19 in Founders Recital Hall in the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center.
