Robert B. Yule entered the engineering field after graduating from South Dakota State College. His work history included: rodman, C and NW Railroad, Huron, 1924; designer, Indiana Highway Department, 1925; resident engineer, Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, 1939; designer, Day and Zimmerman, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 1940; assistant engineer, Hardesty and Hanover, New York City, 1944 and chief structural engineer, General Industries, Inc., Philadelphia, 1947. He then served as vice-president, president and partner in Yule, Jordan and Associates in Philadelphia until his retirement in 1968. He worked with industrial, civil, mechanical, electrical, highway and bridge design. He was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and was awarded the SDSU Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1972. Yule was responsible for several sections of Pennsylvania Turnpike. He designed many miles of Interstate Highways and designed and supervised construction of a pharmacy school building at Temple University. He served on a task committee for ASCE called, Strength of Old Steel Truss Bridges. His wife Hazel Thompson Yule was a 1923 SDSU graduate in general science.
