Richard T. Buesing began his career in a variety of positions with the Mobile Communications Business Division of the General Electric Co., following his graduation from South Dakota State College. His major experience was in the design of land-mobile communication systems where he authored a number of technical papers and held five patents on equipment. In 1972, he was named secretary for the International Electrotechnical Commission’s Sub-Committee SC12F and Working Group One of that Sub-Committee, a position he held until 1976. He held departmental staff-level positions since 1969. Buesing was appointed to manager of Advance Systems and Technology of the Mobile Communications Business Division of General Electric in Lynchburg, Virginia in 1978. In 1971, he received General Electric’s Gerald L. Phillippee Territorial Award for community service. His community activities included service as elder and deacon of the First Presbyterian Church, secretary-treasurer of the Community Mental Health and Mental Retardation Board of Central Virginia and as a member of the board of directors of the United Way of Central Virginia.
