Paul G. Cummings spent 37 years with the General Electric Co. He worked in various positions including: design engineer for large synchronous machines; systems applications engineer for testing equipment and systems; application engineer for a-c motors and generators and industry standards engineer for the motor business group. He was instrumental in the development of the brushless synchronous motor and the brushless synchronous generator. He developed mathematical models for calculating the transient performance of a-c motors and generators. As an industry standards engineer. Cummings provided leadership in the development of viable industry standards for rotating electric machines. Following his retirement in 1986, Cummings became an independent consultant. He worked with the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) in developing and serving as an instructor for a continuing course on motors, motor drives and motor applications. He held a patent, was a Life Fellow Member of the IEEE, recipient of the IEEE Rotating Machinery Committee’s outstanding Service Award and the author of over 20 technical papers and articles.
