Leonard J. Linde began his engineering career with the General Electric Co. in Philadelphia following graduation from South Dakota State College and his marriage to Frances Young, a 1929 SDSC graduate in general science. He earned two gold medals and citations during his 15 years with General Electric. He went on to spend five years with A.B. Chance Co. as chief engineer and then became chief engineer of the Boston Works of Allis-Chalmers, three years later he went to Milwaukee as director of electrical engineering at Allis-Chalmers. In 1957, he was appointed manager of C-Stellerator Associates to design and construct a fusion research facility for Princeton University. He returned to director of engineering of the Industries Division of Allis-Chalmers in 1961 and worked as an engineering consultant for many years.
