Leonard E. Johnston’s career encompassed a broad range of highly technical engineering employment including: professional registration in nine states, membership in numerous professional societies and membership on a U.S. Government trade mission to India and Pakistan. His career encompassed work with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineering, the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission, the Erie Mining Company, Wabush Mines and Pickands Mather and Co. In 1965, he joined Sverdrup and Parcel, a major engineering consulting firm. As a consultant, he specialized in nuclear facilities, mining and one processing, environmental engineering and management. He retired in 1976 as senior vice president of Sverdrup and Parcel.
