John C. “Jack” Marshman earned an M.S. in civil engineering from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, in 1956, following his graduation from South Dakota State College. After a short stint in the U.S. Army, he returned to Sioux Falls and joined Sioux Falls Construction Co. Following several years as a construction superintendent and project manager, he was named general manager in 1970. He advanced to the position of president in 1985 and was elected chairman of the board in 1999. In addition to his business interests, Marshman was president of the Associated General Contractors of South Dakota and has served on numerous community boards. He was instrumental in the establishment and support of the construction management degree program at SDSU.
