Mechanical Engineering,
Gene Sieve is one of numerous engineering and construction graduates recruited directly out or college by the internationally known design and construction firm, Burns and McDonnell.
After graduating with his mechanical engineering degree in 1990 from South Dakota State University, Sieve started supporting military installation and commercial aviation facility design work in the firm's Kansas City headquarters. After demonstrating leadership qualities in his early career, he assumed project management roles in significant military installation master planning efforts in the Middle East as well as wide-body commercial airline hangar projects domestically.
Sieve returned to his native Minnesota and was responsible for establishing the Minneapolis-St Paul office for Burns and McDonnell in 2007, where he has earned the title of vice president and general manager. He was responsible for growing the regional presence of the firm, now employing nearly 150 design and construction professionals in their Bloomington location, as well as offices in Sioux Falls, Duluth and Bismarck. Their work supports a diverse portfolio of clients in the energy infrastructure, department of defense, commercial aviation and manufacturing industries.
In 2015, Sieve received the President's Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies for his dedication to advancing Minnesota's engineering community. He served as Minnesota chapter president in 2012-13 and national director in 2013-14.
Sieve has served on the dean's advisory council for the Jerome J. Lohr College or Engineering at SDSU since 2015, is active in supporting children's STEM initiatives and served on the board or trustees for the Minneapolis-based learning center The Works Museum.
