Ed Cannon was the president of Young Hall and served as the finance director of the Students’ Association while at South Dakota State University. He then joined Westinghouse Electric Corporation in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1974 as a trainee in their graduate student program. In his 14 years with Westinghouse, he worked on various projects involving power generation, transmission and distribution systems and was a manager of distribution automation when he left to co-found Cannon Technologies in Minneapolis with his brother Joel. Ed went on to help make Cannon Technologies a great place to work and to ensure they became a leader in the areas of demand response automatic meter reading and substation automation. Cannon had over 100 employees, 15 of whom were SDSU grads and over 400 electric utility customers, including Xcel Energy, East River Power Cooperative, TXU, PG&E and MidAmerican Energy. Cannon has four siblings, all of whom graduated from SDSU. Mike, Pat, Anne (Hajek) and Joel.
