Dennis L. Moe entered the service with the U.S. Air Force during World War II and joined the faculty at South Dakota State College upon his return. He spent 36 years in the Agricultural Engineering Department at SDSU. Moe’s outstanding record of leadership and accomplishment earned him the rank of Fellow of the American Society of Agricultural Engineers as well as the prestigious Massey Ferguson Award. In the field of research, he was a co-developer of Molite, a lightweight concrete aggregate made from South Dakota shales.
Moe was active in engineering accreditation activities. He developed engineering programs at the undergraduate and graduate level both in the United States and abroad, and authored the first published criteria and guidelines for Agricultural Engineering accreditation. He presented seminars and evaluated programs at a number of institutions in Europe, including Scandinavia. He was also a Rand Corp. participant and a NATO Senior Fellow. Moe authored over 75 educational, scientific and engineering publications.
