Calvin C. Oleson earned an M.S. degree from Iowa State University in 1928 following his graduation from South Dakota State College. Oleson had a varied career in engineering practice, research and education including service on the faulty at SDSC from 1936 to 1946. He worked for the Highway Department in Missouri, Iowa, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. His interest in concrete paving and concrete structures led to employment with the Portland Cement Association where he was involved in research on concrete, especially on long-term performance on concrete structures and non-destructive testing. Oleson was active in several professional and technical societies and served on their committees. He was involved in community affairs and maintained an active interest in consulting in his fields of specialization during his retirement. His three children graduated from SDSU.
