Biography

Morakot Kaewmanee came to SDSU as a visiting scientist in 2012. She has been employed as an Imaging Engineer I for the IP Lab since 2015.

Education

  • M.S. in spatial information system in engineering | Chulalongkorn University, Thailand
  • B.S. in land information and surveying | Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Australia

Academic Interests

  • PICS
  • Satellite calibration

Areas of Research

  1. She focuses on utilizing PICS as a calibration source, developing algorithms to bring all the PICS in North Africa together to a reference point, and providing a greater temporal resolution for data acquisition for satellite calibration. This process is called the PICS Normalization Process, and she integrates the Worldwide Optimal PICS Search to refine the technique.
  2. She improves SDSU’s Absolute PICS Calibration model, which can be applicable to any optical sensors. A recent performance of the APICS model can predict TOA reflectance of any sensor to within 2% for all OLI spectral bands. Even with the latest finding, there is still some room for improvement like spectral differences and atmospheric correction in water absorption bands.
  3. She looks forward to performing cross calibration with newly launched satellites, applying new algorithms developed within the SDSU IP Lab and using these to contribute to the satellite calibration community.
  4. She also is interested in working with satellite imagery and precision agriculture.
