Heiberger’s Research
Dr. Heiberger’s research spans from STEM education to social media. He is a quantitative researcher who uses observational, self report and controlled trial data. He published some of the first work showing the relationship between Facebook and increased student engagement in college students. The continuation of this work on social media and college students showed the efficacy of X in impacting student engagement, grades and retention. Dr. Heiberger and an undergraduate student researcher are currently conducting a randomized controlled trial that will compare the impact of nutritional interventions using Snapchat, Facebook and email.
Student Collaboration
Additionally, his work has shown the nuances of implementing 1:1 tablet technology impact on student collaboration, the effects of peer mentoring on student perceptions, and the effects of metacognition on student performance in introductory biology courses.
