Biography

David Reynolds serves as director of the School of Performing Arts and Professor of Music at South Dakota State University. Prior to 2005, he served on faculties in Montana and Colorado and was a member of The United States Army Band (Pershing’s Own) in Washington, D.C.

David teaches applied trumpet and horn, and coaches chamber groups. An active performer and recitalist, he champions new music by living composers. Recent recitals have included works by Rusty Banks, Paul Basler, Robert Bradshaw, Eric Ewazen, Meg Bowles and James Stephenson, among others. He also enjoys developing “sound tracks” for silent films in the public domain using standard trumpet repertoire.

He has presented original research on the history of wind bands at several state, regional and national conferences. He has contributed articles and reviews to the ABA Journal of Band Research, the ITG Journal, The Magazine of Western History, the South Dakota Musician and the Montana Cadenza.
