2024 Campus and Community Common Read Signature Events

Join us for an interactive examination of the book "The Invention of Wings" and our selected theme heal (hope, empathy, advocacy and loyalty). Speakers will include members of the Common Read Committee and SDSU President Barry Dunn. Join us for the resource fair after to continue learning about opportunities on campus and in the community.

Write and grow through guided journaling. Participants will explore both self and others as a means of discovery and expression while engaging with our chosen themes. Participants should plan on bringing their own writing utensil.

The true story of Solomon Northup, a free black man who was kidnapped and sold into slavery prior to the Civil War, and his incredible journey back to freedom. Tickets are free!

Join an engaging discussion on the women’s suffrage movement led by Dr. Sara Egge, Professor of History and Gender Studies. Dr. Egge joins us via Zoom to recount the stories of suffragettes in the Midwest, with a focus on Black women simultaneously fighting for civil rights.

Explore different styles of quilts and types of quilting with local experts. The first 30 students who arrive will learn a basic sewing stitch and get a FREE quilted coaster kit to start and take home. All participants can create a paper quilt pattern for display. No previous sewing experience required!
