Since its inception in 1990, $8.6 million of research expenditures have been administered through the Water and Environmental Engineering Research Center (also named the Northern Great Plains Water Resources Research Center from 1990-2004). Average annual research expenditures are approximately $390,000.
Projects have addressed environmental and water resources problems of local, state, regional and national interest. Funding for the projects is awarded to Principal Investigators by funding partners and agencies who seek the knowledge contributed by work accomplished by the principle investigators and their research associates.
Examples of Projects:
In 2007, the Regional Water System Research Consortium was established to fund and support research and development projects conducted through WEERC. These projects provide tools enabling regional rural water systems to sustain their management and operations.
