South Dakota State University offers two options for the Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science: the on-campus program and the accelerated program.
Medical Laboratory Science (B.S.) - On-Campus
In order to receive a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in MLS, students must successfully complete at least 120 semester credit hours. For the on-campus program, courses and laboratory experiences are completed on the main campus in Brookings. Students also receive real-world experience in clinical laboratories in hospitals, clinics and other health care settings. In addition to the required courses for the program, students must complete all university general education requirements.
The Medical Laboratory Science program accepts up to 24 students into the on-campus program. Applicants will be notified of the decision regarding their application in writing.
Medical Laboratory Science (B.S.) - Accelerated Program
The accelerated medial laboratory science program is a mixture of online, on-campus and clinical courses.
The 16-month program allows students to complete a B.S. in medical laboratory science faster than the traditional on-campus program.
Accelerated Curriculum:
All regular coursework is completed online over the Fall and Spring semesters. During the Summer term, a series of laboratory courses taken on the Brookings Campus will prepare you with hands-on training for your clinical experiences.
