Laird Larson and his wife Kathy farm near Clark. He has been active in the Crop Improvement Association, serving on the county board of directors for nearly 20 years. He also served as state president and member of the board of directors. In 2003, Laird was recognized as the SDCIA Premier Certified Seed Grower.
In addition, Larson has served for 17 years on the Northeast Research Farm Advisory Board, the Clark County Conservation District Board and has been a member of the Clark County Extension Advisory Board. He has also served as vice president of the South Dakota FFA Foundation Board.
He has worked to raise funds for renovation of the SDSU greenhouses and currently is working to develop a Seed Science Center at SDSU.
Laird and Kathy have three grown children.
