Esther Krutzfeldt believes if you are going to be a member, you must participate. Esther not only participated, but she often served as a leader in her community, county and state.
She is described as a one person cheering squad for the Cooperative Extension Service. She has been a member of the Beadle County Extension Board for 11 years--serving as president the last four years. Krutzfeldt has also served three years on the State Extension Advisory Board and was secretary of the board in 1993.
Esther is a 29-year member of the Jolly Doers Family and Community Education Club and is currently president of the club. She served a two-year term as area director of the South Dakota State Extension Homemakers' Council and was chairperson in 1991 when the annual convention was in Huron.
The Extension Connection Newsletter won the President's Award at the 1993 FCE State Convention under Krutzfeldt's editorship.
She served as Dearborn Township treasurer for 23 years, keeping track of township finances and helping to improve her community. She was also superintendent of the Dearborn/Virgil election board for many years. She is active in her church on the local and state level.
Krutzfeldt has taught recycling projects to local school children and judged 4-H exhibits at the county level for six years.
Esther and her husband, Gilbert, lived on a farm in Dearborn Township for 55 years. They operated a large egg production facility with 1,500 laying hens for several years. They are the parents of two children, Robert and Lois.
