Donald Fieber has actively worked to make his community a better place to live. As a dairy farmer with a modern operation, he is a leader in adopting new technology.
He was an original member of the Deuel County Dairy Herd Improvement Association, and served six years on the state DHIA Board.
As an active community leader, Fieber is a member of the governmental affairs committee of the National Telephone Cooperative Association. He is a state director of the South Dakota Association of Cooperatives and a state trustee on the South Dakota Association of Telephone Cooperatives. Fieber is a past member of the Holy Rosary School Board, was Mayor of Goodwin for 20 years and served on the Town Board for 31 years.
For six years he served on the Deuel County Extension Board and is a past president. He is a member of the Deuel Telephone Cooperative (now called ITC) and was president of the board for 11 years.
Fieber was a 4-H Club Leader for 15 years and has held an area 4-H dairy judging school for the last 18 years. He has sponsored a 4-H dairy trophy for Achievement Days for the last 16 years.
He has served on the advisory board for Clear Lake FFA Chapter and has been a member of the Deuel County Planning and Zoning Board. He was also responsible for signing up the people of Goodwin for the rural water system when it was first organized. He was a charter member of the Deuel County Lions Club.
The Fieber family hosted three international foreign exchange students from India, Taiwan and Holland.
He has received many honors including: Honorary FFA Chapter Farmer; 4-H Pearl Clover Award for 15 years of 4-H Club leadership; most improved DHIA herd in Deuel County; and recognition certificate from Brookings-Deuel Rural Water System. He is an active church member.
Donald and his wife, Orma, are the parents of 11 children: John, Tom, Rick, Mary, Peggy, Patty and Peter, all of Goodwin; Lucy of East Grand Forks, Minnesota; and Tony and Michael of Sioux Falls. They have 41 grandchildren.
