Darleen Duffy believes that "children are the most important of crops." Her activities in her church, school and community have made Kingsbury County a better place to live. Darleen serves on the Kingsbury County Extension Board. She has helped with 4-H exhibits at the Kingsbury County Achievement Days and State Fair.
Currently, she serves as president of the local and area Family and Community Education boards. She has been on the South Dakota Association of Family and Community Education Executive Board in many different capacities. Leading the South Dakota FCE Scholarship and Cookbook Committees are two of her endeavors. She has participated in the Character Counts training. Through her resourcefulness, children have been made aware of the good character the program promotes through school training.
Duffy has been an elementary teacher and now is a substitute teacher. In addition, she has held offices in the PTA and band mothers. She has also served as a volunteer tutor and chaired the food committee for the Junior-Senior Banquet. At church, she serves on the St. Catherine's Church Council and Lutheran Social Services Advisory Board. She has co-chaired three fund raising events that supports a counselor in Kingsbury County. She is also active in the community, serving on the Oldham Centennial Committee and 60-Plus Dining Program.
She often serves as superintendent of the election board, and is a volunteer librarian. In addition, she is the treasurer of the Oldham Library and Historical Association. She also helps maintain the Heritage House Museum from May through September. Darleen has given more than 500 hours of her time to the Kingsbury County Volunteer Service Bank and has worked with children at the local school and transported elderly citizens to medical facilities. She chairs the Oldham Housing Corporation, which is responsible for hiring a manager to take care of local apartment buildings. Darleen and her husband Louis are retired from farming. They have four children: Gary, Jerome, Terry and Jeffrey.
