Carletta Kilian of Gettysburg is an integral part of the operation of a ranch and feedlot partnership with her husband, Lorren. In 1980 they collaborated with another couple to purchase property and begin building the K & K Ranch. Kilian is bookkeeper and errand runner. Kilian has devoted much of her life to betterment of her community. In 1967 she became an assistant 4-H leader and later became club leader, a position she held until 1982. She was a member of the Potter County 4-H Leaders, where she also held several offices. In 1980, she received the Outstanding Parent Award in Potter County. Kilian is highly involved in community service and foods projects, serving as Potter County Foods Key Leader for three years. She was on the foods committee at Achievement Days for 20 years, becoming an official foods judge. She now judges in at least five surrounding counties. She has been an active supporter of the Cooperative Extension Service and served on the Potter County Extension Board for nine years. She has also been a member of the River's Edge Family Community Education Club for 39 years, holding at different times all club and county offices. She chaired the "Plunge to Pierre" event for six years. Kilian has also been active in the South Dakota Cattle Women and has served on all church boards of the Gettysburg United Methodist Church where she currently is a trustee. Carletta and her husband have five children and nine grandchildren, all of whom are active in 4-H.
