Eminent Homemaker
County: Brookings
Betty and her husband Homer live in Volga. When still involved in farming, Betty was a total partner in the operation. She worked with the Simmental breeding herd, hogs, sheep and crops. Since leaving the farm, she has continued to support agriculture and youth through her involvement in 4-H, and also through her work in the South Dakota State University Animal Science Department. She has been recognized as Career Service Employee of the Month, and also received the Brookings County "Friend of 4-H" Award.
Growing up in Minnesota, Betty was a member of 4-H. She continued her involvement as a member of the Brookings County 4-H Leaders Association and has assisted with livestock judging schools, achievement days, calf shows and almost any other 4-H activity that needs assistance. One nominator said, "While Betty neither seeks nor seems to enjoy the spotlight, she is the perfect depiction of leadership by example."
She is active in her church, serving as Sunday school superintendent, teacher, lector and officer in numerous church boards. Betty has been an active supporter of their school district, volunteering for numerous functions and activities.
Betty and Homer have two children, both are SDSU graduates.
