Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium, home of Jackrabbits football, is located on the northeast side of campus. Completed in August 2016, it is built on the same site as the previous stadium, Coughlin-Alumni. The Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium has a capacity of 19,340 (up from 11,000).
Building Description
The stadium features a soy-based turf football field with bleachers and chairback seats. Suite and loge seating, ticket offices, media facilities as well as ample restrooms and concession stands are available for spectators. Thanks to Daktronics, a 3,100-square foot LED video board is placed at the south side of the stadium, over the student section and The Pride of the Dakotas Marching Band.
Fans can buy SDSU apparel and more at the Jackrabbit Central Stadium Store located at the southwest corner of the stadium. The store features many items that cannot be purchased at any other Jackrabbit Central store.
The stadium cost an estimated $65 million and was funded through private gifts and long-term revenue streams, including concessions and suite, loge box and ticket sales. Lead gifts totaling $12.5 million came from Sioux Falls banker Dana J. Dykhouse and philanthropist T. Denny Sanford. Dykhouse is a former SDSU football player.
The stadium project was approved by the Legislature during the 2014 session and signed into law by Gov. Dennis Daugaard. Construction began in fall 2014, with the east and south stands completed in August 2015. The remainder was finished in August 2016, with the first game played Sept. 10, 2016, against Drake (Iowa).
