Reservations

Project Availability

Rooms and equipment are reserved on a first come, first serve basis depending on availability. The steps to reserve research space are listed below. At times there may be wait times for research space. Typically this is not an issue in the BSL1 rodent areas. Our BSL2 and 2+ rooms do experience high demand and because of that there may be extended wait periods of three weeks to six months. Our Large Animal Gnotobiotic Rooms require a minimum of three months' notice prior to the start of a project. The Large Animal Reservation Form is for all large animal projects run inside the Vivarium and LARB as well as any infectious work done in small animals. The Gnotobiotic Large Animal Reservation Form is used for gnotobiotic pigs, gnotobiotic chickens and conventional pigs housed in gnotobiotic units. At this time there is no reservation form for the small animal gnotibiotic room. All inquiries for using this room must go through the PI and Facility Manager.

  1. Submit an Animal Use Form to IACUC for approval and receive a protocol number.
  2. Complete the appropriate Reservation Form listed above for easy access.
  3. Schedule a Project Planning Meeting (PPM) between Vivarium management and research teams to discuss project details, equipment needs, proposed start/end dates, etc.
  4. All animal orders are placed by the Facility Manager to ensure proper preparations are in place. Exceptions can be made upon meeting with the Facility Manager.
    1. Animals are scheduled to arrive Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-3 p.m., excluding holidays.
    2. Please note that there may be weather-related transportation delays during weather extremes.
  5. One week prior to project start date PI, PI staff and management team will meet briefly to discuss final details of the project, finalized event schedule, assigned tasks, traffic patterns, finalize any training, etc. This will be a brief meeting.

PI must provide completed IACUC Door Sheet to Management prior to animal arrival.
